Tab Lifeboat is built so that your browsing data never leaves your computer. This page explains exactly what the extension stores and the one case where it talks to a server.
What is stored, and where
The addresses (URLs) and titles of tabs you save, the crash-recovery snapshots of your open windows, and your settings are stored only in your browser's local extension storage on your device. They are not sent to us or to anyone else. We have no servers that receive them, no analytics and no tracking.
If you use Pro automatic backups or the export buttons, the extension writes files to your own Downloads folder. Those files stay on your device.
Tab icons are shown using your browser's built-in favicon cache; the extension does not fetch them from the internet itself.
The only network request: license checks (Pro)
If you buy Pro and enter a license key, the extension sends the license key, a random activation ID and a short label for your browser (for example “Tab Lifeboat · Edge”) to our license server, to confirm the key is valid. It does this when you activate and then about once a week. No browsing data is ever included.
Payments are processed by Stripe (privacy policy). We never see your card details. From the purchase we keep your email address, the license key and its activations, so we can help if you lose your key, and so a refunded purchase stops working. This data is stored on Cloudflare, which hosts our license server.
Permissions and why they are needed
- tabs — to read the URL and title of the tabs you choose to save, and to reopen them.
- storage, unlimitedStorage — to keep your saved tabs on your device, however many you have.
- alarms — to take crash-recovery snapshots and run daily backups on a schedule.
- downloads — to write backup and export files to your Downloads folder.
- favicon — to show each saved tab's icon from the browser's cache.
Your control
You can export everything at any time, delete any group, and remove all data by uninstalling the extension (backup files you chose to keep in your Downloads folder are yours to delete).
We do not sell, share, or use your data for advertising, creditworthiness, or any purpose other than providing the extension's features.
